Tenth lining — sometimes written as tenthlining — is the practice of numbering every tenth line of a legal document in the right-hand margin. The numbers appear at lines 10, 20, 30, and so on throughout the document.
It is a procedural requirement for documents filed at the Kenyan Court of Appeal. The line numbers allow judges and advocates to reference specific passages precisely during oral submissions: for example, "Page 45, Volume II, lines 20 to 30."
